Biofeedback Therapy
If bladder leaks, urgency, or pelvic discomfort are disrupting your life, biofeedback therapy offers a gentle, proven path to relief.
What is Biofeedback Therapy?
Biofeedback therapy—or pelvic floor biofeedback—is a painless approach that provides feedback to you and your therapist on the level of strength and relaxation of your pelvic floor muscles. Using images on a computer screen, you will learn to strengthen, tone, and relax the pelvic floor muscles while isolating muscles such as your abdomen. During a biofeedback therapy session, you will also be given information on how to control urinary urges, avoid bladder irritants, and decrease pressure on the bladder.
We’ll begin with a one-on-one visit with a nurse who will take a detailed history of your bladder symptoms. You’ll be asked about leakage, frequency, and pad usage to help us better understand your experience. From there, we’ll explain how the therapy works and what you can expect, answering any questions before we begin.
You’ll change into a gown and lie comfortably on the exam table. A small sensor probe will be gently inserted into the vagina or rectum—this is completely safe and designed to measure how your pelvic floor muscles are working. Additional small electrodes are placed on your abdomen to detect abdominal muscle activity.
Using this setup, your nurse will guide you through a series of pelvic floor contractions, similar to stopping urine flow. You’ll see your muscle activity in real time on a screen, and your therapist will walk you through the results. Based on what we see, you’ll receive a customized exercise program, along with a written home guide and a voiding diary to track your symptoms.
The first session lasts about 90 minutes and lays the foundation for your therapy journey.
Most women complete their therapy in 6 to 8 sessions over 3 to 4 months. Follow-up appointments are one hour each and focus on tracking progress and building strength through targeted exercises and biofeedback support. As your control improves, we’ll continue refining your program to help you feel confident and in control—both at the clinic and at home.

Take the First Step Toward Feeling Supported and in Control Again
Biofeedback therapy helps you “see” how your pelvic floor muscles are working, using gentle sensors and real-time computer feedback to guide you in strengthening and coordinating those muscles effectively.
If you’re dealing with bladder leaks, urgency, pelvic pressure, or even pain during intimacy, biofeedback can help retrain the muscles that support bladder control and pelvic comfort.
Most women find the treatment gentle and completely manageable. The sensors used are small and designed for comfort, and we’ll explain everything before getting started.
Everybody is different, but many women start noticing real improvements in control and comfort within just a few sessions.
