Prenatal Care
What is Prenatal Health Care?
Prenatal health care is the careful medical and emotional support you receive throughout your pregnancy, while focusing on monitoring your baby’s development and keeping you healthy along the way. Unlike general pregnancy care, which includes planning and postpartum support, prenatal care zeroes in on the unique trimester-by-trimester care you need during pregnancy itself. Most insurance plans cover prenatal visits, labs, and routine ultrasounds—making it easier to get the care you and your baby need from the very beginning.

Get StartedYour Prenatal Journey, Explained
Hear from Dr. Randall Kahan—founding partner of WomanCare—as he introduces what to expect during pregnancy and why prenatal care is so important. Whether you’re newly pregnant or just exploring your options, his guidance offers clarity, compassion, and confidence from the very start.
Once your pregnancy is confirmed, we’ll help you schedule your first prenatal appointment—usually around 8 weeks. You may be asked to complete intake forms, bring a list of medications, and prepare any questions or early symptoms you’d like to discuss.
Your provider will take a full health history, perform a physical exam, and likely order baseline labs or an ultrasound to confirm your due date. We’ll talk through early pregnancy symptoms, safe medications, and what to expect in the weeks ahead—all in a supportive, no-pressure environment.
You’ll leave with a clear prenatal care plan tailored to your pregnancy timeline, along with follow-up appointments and recommended tests. If anything comes up between visits, our team is just a phone call or message away—because your care doesn’t stop when you walk out the door.

Ideally, around 8 weeks after your last period, or as soon as your pregnancy is confirmed.
Prenatal care includes regular check-ups, lab work, ultrasounds, screenings, nutritional guidance, and support for physical and emotional well-being.
Most patients are seen every 4 weeks until 28 weeks, every 2 weeks until 36 weeks, and weekly until delivery, though this may vary if your pregnancy is high-risk.
Not typically. Most pregnancies include a few scheduled ultrasounds, but more may be ordered based on your needs or concerns.
Genetic screening is optional and offered early in pregnancy. We’ll explain your choices and help you decide what’s right for you.
Blood and urine tests check for anemia, infections, gestational diabetes, and other health indicators for you and your baby.
We recommend a daily prenatal vitamin with folic acid, iron, calcium, and DHA. We can suggest trusted brands and adjust based on your needs.
Yes—continuity of care is a priority at WomanCare. Whenever possible, we’ll ensure you see the same OB/GYN or midwife throughout your journey.
